Job summary

Athens Country Club, Inc. is seeking a Banquet Captain to coordinate catered events and supervise staff to meet member and guest expectations for service excellence and presentation standards.

You will work closely with service personnel and management to ensure event success, maintain club standards, and deliver VIP service when required. This role requires flexibility, strong leadership, and a focus on safety and etiquette within a fine dining environment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and equipment used in the storage, care, preparation, and service of food and beverages for large-scale events.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and split shifts.
• Strong communication skills and a dynamic, outgoing personality.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to demonstrate proper banquet wine service.
• Knowledge of kitchen and banquet equipment.

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, coordinates and supervises catered events based on client specifications and Banquet Event Orders (BEOs).
• Works with Food and Beverage Managers, the Banquet Operations Manager, Banquet Chef, and others to coordinate staffing requirements for events.
• Assists in directing banquet staff during all phases of catered events.
• Effectively communicates service expectations and event requirements to banquet staff.
• Coordinates food service between the kitchen and banquet service staff.
• Inspects linens and event materials to ensure proper appearance and readiness.
• Assists with inventory management of banquet service ware, equipment, and supplies.
• Enforces established club rules, regulations, policies, and service standards.
• Reviews table diagrams, room setups, and event requirements to ensure accuracy.
• Participates in pre-function meetings to ensure smooth and efficient service execution.
• Ensures banquet staff are properly groomed and in the correct uniform.
• Assists with training, coaching, and supervision of banquet service staff.
• Maintains the cleanliness, organization, and safety of all banquet areas.
• Coordinates with event coordinators and department leaders to ensure all event requirements are met.
• Provides VIP service as necessary.
• Ensures compliance with all applicable state and local alcohol service laws, as well as club policies and procedures.
• Develops event-specific action plans from setup through breakdown and reset.
• Notifies the Manager on Duty of guest concerns, complaints, or service issues requiring attention.
• Oversees all aspects of event operations from setup through event completion.
• Independently supervises and executes smaller banquet events, ensuring successful event flow, service standards, and guest satisfaction.
• Serves as the primary on-site leader for assigned events when designated by management.
• Provides coaching, guidance, and real-time direction to banquet servers to promote consistent service standards and team development.
• Completes other duties and assignments as directed by the Banquet Manager or supervisor.
