Job summary

The Blackwell Inn & Pfahl Conference Center – The Ohio State University is seeking a Banquet Captain to lead event operations and coordinate banquet/meeting space functions in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

You will support staff, ensure guest satisfaction, and work closely with the Food & Beverage Manager to deliver high-standard service across all events at The Blackwell Inn and Pfahl Conference Center.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED
• Experience in hospitality, food and beverage, banquet operations, or a related field
• Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and customer service skills
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) to ensure accurate event execution
• Coordinate banquet and meeting space operations to meet guest and organizational expectations
• Monitor daily and weekly event communications to determine staffing needs and operational requirements
• Maintain a visible leadership presence before, during, and after events to ensure exceptional service delivery
• Oversee the proper set-up and tear-down of banquet functions, meeting breaks, and bar operations
• Ensure compliance with hotel policies, service standards, and operational procedures
• Assist with recruiting, training, coaching, and developing full-time and student employees
• Help maintain appropriate staffing levels to support banquet and conference operations
• Monitor banquet inventory and requisition supplies as needed to meet projected business demands
• Support administrative responsibilities including scheduling, payroll processing, and event billing
