Job summary

The YMCA of San Diego is seeking a Ballet Folklórico Youth Dance Instructor to build positive relationships with members and lead safe, engaging dance classes. This role focuses on guiding participants through age‑appropriate routines that enhance physical, mental, and spiritual health, while maintaining a welcoming and supportive studio environment.

Responsibilities include safe instruction, equipment setup, and fostering community spirit.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16 years or older.
• If actively enrolled in high school, a valid school district Work Permit is required.
• 18 years of age or older; fingerprinting is required prior to reporting to work, with subsequent arrest notifications.
• Dance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create a positive member experience by welcoming participants and keeping them engaged during workouts.
• Demonstrate proper form and technique, provide modifications, and cue as needed to ensure safe workouts.
• Maintain a clean and safe workout area.
• Use scheduled class time effectively and efficiently.
• Set up and breakdown class equipment within the allotted time.
• Build community by learning names and helping members reach Health & Wellness goals.
• Follow YMCA core functions and Class Guidelines; communicate well with large and small groups.
• Maintain ability to lead and participate in fitness activities; respond swiftly in emergencies.

Overview

The Ballet Folklórico Youth Dance Instructor is responsible for building positive relationships among members, participants, volunteers and staff by actively greeting and providing excellent customer service, guidance and leadership. The Ballet Folklórico Youth Dance Instructor creates and leads dance classes in a safe, effective, and timely manner, appropriate to the level of the participants in class, to enhance the physical, mental, and spiritual health of each student.

Schedule

• Able to work Monday, Thursday, or a Saturday
• Ballet Folklórico Youth Dance

Responsibilities

• Create a positive member experience through welcoming participants and ensuring they are actively engaged in their workout

• Provide a safe workout routine by demonstrating proper form and technique, appropriate modifications, and cueing

• Maintain a clean and safe workout area

• Effectively utilize scheduled class time

• Properly set up and breakdown class equipment in allotted timeframe

• Build community through forming positive relationships through learning names, and helping members reach their Health & Wellness Goals

• Adhere to the core functions of the YMCA and exemplify Y Group Exercise Class Guidelines
• Ability to communicate verbally to large and small groups of members
• Physical ability to lead and participate in exercise/fitness activities
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency

• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Minimum of 16 years of age or older
• If actively enrolled in high school, a valid school district Work Permit is required
• 18 years of age or older, licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications
• Dance experience preferred

• All job required trainings within 90 days from date of hire

• Strong communication skills and the capability to work with members of all fitness levels and abilities

• Knowledge of fitness principles and practical applications required
• CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within30 daysofhireand must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
• American Red Cross
• American Heart Association
• American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range

USD $19.69 - USD $23.63 /Hr.
