Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Bakery Clerk to support the Bakery department. You will greet customers, assist with products, monitor freshness, and help prepare and replenish baked goods in a fast-paced environment.

We welcome applicants with varying experience levels; training is provided. The role includes night and weekend shifts, with a starting hourly wage in the $13.50–$16.80 range depending on experience.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required; Hy-Vee will train and support you as you grow.
• Follow written and verbal instructions with confidence.
• Use basic math skills for simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
• Communicate clearly with customers and teammates in a friendly, helpful way.
• Stay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy bakery environment.
• Less than a high school diploma or equivalent accepted; up to six months of similar or related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly and making them feel welcome in the bakery.
• Assist customers with finding products, reaching items, carrying heavy purchases, and taking orders at the bakery counter.
• Review daily orders and monitor product freshness, appearance, and supply levels throughout your shift.
• Prepare, finish, and replenish baked goods as needed, pulling product from the cooler or freezer to prepare for baking.
• Follow and maintain proper sanitation procedures, keeping your work area clean and organized at all times.
• Check in product, put product away, and review invoices as needed.
• Operate the department register to process payments where applicable.
• Remove trash in a timely manner and maintain a tidy department.
• Work alongside your teammates to ensure a smooth, positive experience for every customer.
• Maintain compliance with Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policies.
• Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
