Job summary

Side Saddle Wine Saloon is hiring a baker to support our pastry production for the cafe, location in Atlanta. The role involves from-scratch pastries, breakfast items, and coordinating with FOH in the mornings.

The baker works in a fast-paced environment starting as early as 5am, with weekend and holiday shifts possible. Strong teamwork, attention to detail, and ability to follow recipes are essential.

Qualifications

  • Prior baking experience, from home or professional, is required.
  • Basic understanding of baking skills and techniques (measuring, mixing, mise en place, baking).
  • Must be clean, organized, and able to perform regular cleaning tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Follow recipes for from-scratch pastries in bulk quantities, producing pastries to FiNCA's quality standards.
  • Open the store regularly by baking fresh pastries and preparing breakfast items in mornings.
  • Communicate openly and work well in a team environment.
  • Complete production and prep lists while managing time and communicating delays.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workspace throughout the shift and complete closing duties.
  • Follow food safety standards and properly portion, label, store, and rotate products (FIFO).
  • Monitor product quality, identify issues, and escalate to leadership when necessary.
  • Assist with delivering pastries to Side Saddle Wine Saloon and catering/wholesale clients around Atlanta.

We are an energetic, queer-owned coffee shop based in ATL, GA! We believe in serving humanity’s finest coffee, pastries, and hospitality! Join a team of talented bakers and baristas who make FiNCA the neighborhood’s favorite coffee shop. We pride ourselves in being a welcoming environment and allowing both employees and customers to show up as themselves.

What is being a baker at FiNCA like?

Our bakery team is a small team that gets a lot done! We produce pastries for our lovely Old Fourth Ward location, Side Saddle Wine Saloon, and catering/wholesale clients. We work hard, move quickly, and take pride in producing high-quality food that our guests love. Our bakers work both independently and collaboratively, and every day looks a little different depending on production needs. We start our days in the bakery as early as 5am and stay busy Monday through Sunday!

Who are you?

  • You have previous baking experience (at home or professional)
  • You have a basic understanding of baking skills and techniques (measuring, mixing, mise en place, baking, etc)
  • You are clean and organized and willing and able to perform regular cleaning tasks, such as doing dishes, sweeping, and mopping
  • You have (or can acquire within 60 days of hire) a Food Handler’s certification from Servsafe
  • You have flexible availability and can work on weekends, early mornings, and some holidays
  • You communicate effectively with coworkers and Management
  • You have strong attention to detail and are comfortable asking clarifying questions when you are unsure
  • You can manage your time effectively in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining quality and attention to detail
  • You enjoy working in a team environment and also have the ability to work independently

Essential functions

  • Follow recipes for from-scratch pastries in bulk quantities, produce pastries consistently to FiNCA's quality standards, and communicate when something isn't working
  • Opening the store on a regular basis by baking off fresh pastries, preparing breakfast sandwiches, and collaborating with FOH members in the mornings
  • Communicate openly and work well in a team environment
  • Complete assigned production and prep lists while managing time effectively and communicating when production is falling behind
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workspace throughout the shift and complete assigned cleaning and closing duties
  • Follow food safety standards and properly portion, label, store, and rotate products (FIFO is your friend)
  • Monitor product quality, identify issues, and **escalate to leadership when necessary**
  • Be willing and able to assist with delivering pastries to both Side Saddle Wine Saloon and our catering/wholesale clients around Atlanta
  • We also offer paid delivery shifts if you have a personal vehicle

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for 8+ hours a day
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and work for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Ability to safely work around commercial ovens, mixers, refrigeration, and other kitchen equipment
