Job summary

Carlo's Bakery Lackawanna in Jersey City, NJ is seeking a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our busy bakery manufacturing plant. You will track ingredients usage, production output, and cost variances to support data-driven decisions that improve profitability in a fast-paced food environment.

This full-time on-site role collaborates with production, operations, and finance teams; you will prepare regular cost reports, maintain standard costs, and assist with month-end closes and audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA/CMA a plus.
• 3+ years cost accounting experience in manufacturing or food production.
• Strong cost accounting, variance analysis, and inventory control knowledge.
• Proficient Excel with pivot tables; familiarity with Power BI/SQL optional.
• Experience with PRIMS or similar production/recipe systems is a plus.
• Understanding of bakery/food manufacturing processes is desirable.
• Detail-oriented with analytical, independent work style.
• Strong communication to work across production, operations, and finance.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily batch reconciliations of ingredients vs estimates.
• Analyze variances for materials, labor, and overhead.
• Track production costs: materials, packaging, utilities.
• Maintain standard costs for ingredients and finished goods.
• Prepare periodic cost reports for management.
• Support month-end close, inventory valuation, budgeting, and audits.
• Collaborate with production to resolve discrepancies.
