Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Bakery Clerk to help keep the bakery department running smoothly and smelling amazing. You will prepare and replenish products, assist customers at the bakery counter, and contribute to a warm, welcoming shopping experience.

No prior experience is required as we provide training; you will work in a busy store environment and support teammates to ensure a positive customer journey.

Qualifications

• Follow written and verbal instructions with confidence.
• Use basic math for simple addition, subtraction, counting and recording.
• Communicate clearly with customers and teammates in a friendly, helpful way.
• Stay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy bakery environment.
• High school diploma not required; up to six months of related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly and making them feel welcome in the bakery.
• Assist customers with finding products, reaching items, carrying heavy purchases, and taking orders at the bakery counter.
• Review daily orders and monitor product freshness, appearance, and supply levels throughout your shift.
• Prepare, finish, and replenish baked goods as needed, pulling product from the cooler or freezer to prepare for baking.
• Follow and maintain proper sanitation procedures, keeping your work area clean and organized.
• Check in product, put product away, and review invoices as needed.
• Operate the department register to process payments where applicable.
• Remove trash in a timely manner and maintain a tidy department.
• Work alongside teammates to ensure a smooth, positive experience for every customer.
• Maintain compliance with Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policies.
• Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
• You’ll receive direction and support from: Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home, and Bakery Department Manager
