Job summary

El Super is hiring a Bakery Clerk to join the #13 Gage store operations team in Los Angeles. Under direct supervision from the Bakery Manager, you will provide friendly customer service, support bakery purchases, and maintain clean, well-stocked displays.

The role requires physical ability to lift up to 60 pounds, basic PC skills, and a Food Handler Card or equivalent certification for all food-related positions. Equal opportunity employer policies apply.

Qualifications

• Read and comprehend simple instructions, product labels, shelf tags and memos.
• Write simple correspondence.
• Present information clearly in one-on-one and small group settings.
• Apply common sense to follow written or oral instructions.
• Regularly lift up to 25 lbs, frequently up to 45 lbs, and occasionally up to 60 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly, courteous customer service in the Bakery department.
• Assist customers with bakery purchases and take special orders under supervision.
• Clean, stock and rotate shelves and displays in front of the store and in the bakery area.
• Coordinate with the Baker on items to bake or decorate.
• Participate in department cleaning, including hosing floors when needed.

The Opportunity

Under direct supervision from the Bakery Manager, the Bakery Clerk provides customer service and conducts various tasks within the bakery.

The Bakery Clerk provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service to the Bakery department. They will assist customers with bakery purchases, clean shelving and display cases. Cleans, fills, and rotates the self serve displays that are both in the front of the store and adjacent to the store bakery. The Bakery Clerk will work with customers to take special orders. They will also work with the Baker to determine which items may need to be baked or decorated. This position will also help in the department cleaning by hosing down the floors with soap and water to ensure the department cleanliness.

The working environment is typical for a fast-paced grocery store, and essential functions of this job include physical requirements such as lifting, standing, walking and kneeling as well as visual and auditory requirements. Food Handler Card or its equivalent certification is required for all positions related to: preparation, handling and serving food.
