Job summary

El Super is hiring a Bakery Clerk in Commerce, CA to support customer service in the bakery, assist with purchases, and help maintain clean, appealing displays. The role requires teamwork, good communication, and the ability to lift moderate weights as part of daily duties.

The Bakery Clerk will work under the Bakery Manager, help process special orders, and coordinate with the bakery team to determine which items require baking or decorating.

Qualifications

• Read and comprehend simple instructions, product labels, and shelf tags.
• Write simple correspondence and communicate clearly with customers.
• Present information effectively to customers and coworkers in one-on-one or small group settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service in the bakery and assist customers with purchases.
• Keep shelves and displays clean, stocked, and rotated; maintain cleanliness of display cases.
• Assist with special orders and coordinate with the Baker on items to bake or decorate.
• Assist in department cleaning and safety, including floor washing as needed.

• Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 45 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.

The Opportunity

Under direct supervision from the Bakery Manager, the Bakery Clerk provides customer service and conducts various tasks within the bakery. The Bakery Clerk provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service to the Bakery department. They will assist customers with bakery purchases, clean shelving and display cases. Cleans, fills, and rotates the self‑serve displays that are both in the front of the store and adjacent to the store bakery. The Bakery Clerk will work with customers to take special orders. They will also work with the Baker to determine which items may need to be baked or decorated. This position will also help in the department cleaning by hosing down the floors with soap and water to ensure the department cleanliness. The working environment is typical for a fast‑paced grocery store, and essential functions of this job include physical requirements such as lifting, standing, walking and kneeling as well as visual and auditory requirements. Food Handler Card or its equivalent certification is required for all positions related to: preparation, handling and serving food.
