Job Title: Bakery Clerk

General Function

Responsible for reviewing daily orders, preparing & replenishing products in a prompt, efficient, and friendly manner. Ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members.

Reporting Relations

Accountable to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home; Bakery Department Manager

Positions reporting to this role: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all interactions.
• Greet customers warmly and learn their names when possible.
• Assist customers with product location, handling out-of-reach items, loading/unloading heavy items, and passing along suggestions or requests.
• Review food freshness and order status daily.
• Take customer orders at the bakery counter.
• Work as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Follow proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean.
• Ensure adequate food supply, prepare, finish, and replenish products as needed.
• Manage product from cooler/freezer, review invoices, and run the register when necessary.
• Maintain personal hygiene and adhere to store policies.
• Report to work on time as scheduled.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

• Wash dishes, order supplies, price products, deliver orders, and assist in other store areas as needed.
• Perform other related duties and projects as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics

• Ability to follow detailed instructions and deal with concrete variables.
• Basic math skills including addition and subtraction.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions, write identifying information, and request supplies orally or in writing.

Education and Experience

Less than high school or equivalent experience, with six months or less of related work experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
• Visual requirements include clarity of vision at various distances, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
• Physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

Store environment with pressure to meet deadlines, exposure to flour dust, noise, chemicals, electrical shock, and temperature extremes.

Equipment Used

Mixers, ovens, wrapping, label printer, cash register, dishwasher, bread slicer, electric knife, microwave, airbrush, and copy machine.

Contacts

Daily contact with the public and customers, as well as with regulatory agencies regarding inspections.
