Job summary

Panera Bread is seeking an Assistant General Manager to lead an engaged bakery-cafe team in Durham. You will partner with the General Manager to drive guest satisfaction, manage daily operations, and develop staff through coaching and mentoring.

The role emphasizes hiring, training, and maintaining Panera’s high standards across service, quality, and safety. You will grow the business by planning staffing, optimizing schedules, and modeling Panera’s guiding values.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of restaurant management experience preferred.
• ServSafe certification (or ability to achieve).
• Proven ability to drive positive results through strong business acumen.
• Proven availability to run great shifts while directing, motivating, coaching and developing others.

Responsibilities

• Support General Manager by making key decisions and problem solving.
• Plan and manage staffing needs, shift scheduling, people development, and succession planning.
• Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training of new team members while motivating and celebrating the team.
• Assist with managing team performance to meet goals, standards, and guest service expectations.
• Partner with the General Manager to develop managers and Panera’s Guiding Values & Behaviors.
• Collaborate to ensure guest delight through food quality, service, and teamwork.
• Follow procedures to implement company strategies and initiatives; ensure policy compliance.
• Maintain a healthy, safe workplace meeting health, safety, and culture standards.
• Support GM in managing costs and inventory; contribute to cost awareness.
• Help build a culture of warmth, belonging, growth, and trust.
