Our Baker is a key player in ensuring our bakery products look and taste amazing. In addition to providing excellent guest service, you'll be responsible for using quality ingredients to craft delicious products for our guests. As a team member, you'll focus on building lasting relationships by understanding and exceeding customer needs. Your primary responsibility will be preparing and baking products to ensure only the freshest items are available.
Job Description
- Experience Required: Satisfactory completion of job-specific skills assessment; 6 to 12 months experience or successful completion of the Giant Eagle Apprenticeship program.
- Experience Desired: Prior experience working in a bakery or related industry.
- Education Desired: No high school diploma required.
- Lifting Requirement: Up to 50 pounds.
- Age Requirement: At least 18 years of age.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform bench work according to established scratch procedures when necessary.
- Prepare and form products according to specifications and recipes.
- Bake products using appropriate time and temperature as specified.
- Prepare bakery items following established recipes, including scratch recipes.
- Insert products into proof box, set controls, and ensure proper size and shape.
- Prepare and fry donuts following established procedures.
- Store products in the freezer to preserve freshness.
- Answer customer questions and resolve issues to meet guest requirements.
- Demonstrate suggestive selling techniques and offer samples when appropriate.
- Greet customers and assist them in locating products, answering questions, and making suggestions.
- Prioritize safety in all work aspects for team members, guests, and products.
- Bake and rotate bakery products, ensuring only the freshest are available for sale.
- Maintain cleanliness of equipment, utensils, floors, and work areas to meet sanitation standards.
- Record special orders accurately to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Follow safety, sanitation, and emergency procedures, including proper lifting and housekeeping.
- Understand ingredients and their purposes in scratch baked goods.
- Assist in maintaining bakery backroom, cooler, and freezer efficiency by unloading deliveries.
- Gather necessary ingredients for baking operations, including scratch recipes.
- Assist in other areas as needed.
