Job summary

Harvard Radcliffe Institute in Cambridge, MA seeks a Cataloger for a four-year backlog remediation project in its Schlesinger Library. The role emphasizes advanced cataloging, metadata creation, and high-quality holdings records in Alma and OCLC. You will collaborate with archives and other formats to refine workflows.

Qualifications

• ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS or an advanced degree with relevant, substantial research library experience in special collections.
• Three or more years of professional experience in cataloging special collections materials.
• Knowledge of cataloging standards and schema (MARC, RDA, AACR2, LCSH; CONSER, NACO, SACO).
• Experience with Ex Libris Alma and OCLC Connexion.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

• Perform original and complex copy cataloging for rare materials across formats, adhering to current standards (RDA, DCRM/B).
• Create and maintain bibliographic and authority records in the ILS (Alma) and OCLC Connexion.
• Create original cataloging in OCLC for materials in multiple languages and subjects.
• Perform serials cataloging and detailed holdings records following CONSER guidelines.
• Maintain provenance, copy-specific details, and physical descriptions in records.
• Record copy-specific physical description and provenance in holdings records in Alma.
• MARC record maintenance and reconciliation in local catalog and OCLC Connexion.
• Conduct subject analysis to support authority records and local practices.
• Develop scalable metadata workflows and contribute to local metadata policies.
• Supervise student workers supporting backlog-related activities.
