Backlist & Brand Director (Open to remote)

The Penguin Random House Christian Publishing Group, that includes the flagship imprints of Waterbrook & Multnomah, is in growth mode and looking to hire a Backlist & Brand Director. We publish a broad range of Christian authors including John Mark Comer, Mark Batterson, Michael Todd, Jordan Lee Dooley, Jennie Allen, Manny Arango, Ashley Heatherington, Madison Prewett Troutt, Sarita Lyons, Angela Halili and Arielle Reitsma, Rich Villodas, Katie Davis Majors, Stephanie Ike Okafor, and Joni Eareckson Tada.

Reporting to the Publisher, this newly created role of the Backlist & Brand Director will work to maximize opportunities with the backlist titles of six imprints at PRH Christian. Using a 360-degree approach, this position will work with many different departments, including publishing, editorial, marketing, sales, art, and production departments, and creating a brand approach to key authors on the list. Project based, the job will include liaising with authors and agents, repackaging covers, working with sales on timing and promotions, and interfacing with marketing when needed on individual books and seasonal campaigns. This is a great opportunity to be fully immersed with the whole publishing team in a division that is growing!


Specific responsibilities include:
• Leads backlist strategy for Christian division.

* Repackages brand backlist – works with Publisher, editors, sales, and marketing to repackage and reissue brand author backlist.
• Identifies Christian marketplace trends for backlist promotion.

• Cultivates relationships with key brand partners & lead backlist authors.
• Works with publisher, editors, and agents on copyright terminations, license renewals, and subsequent reissues.
• Works closely with marketing and sales, leads brand campaigns on select titles.
• Looks at pricing, copy, digital content, inventory, keywords for backlist optimization.

• Interest in, or knowledge of, Christian marketplace
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Must be a self-starter with the ability to prioritize and multi-task
• Ability to work with many departments to pull a project together
• Detail-oriented
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Desire to learn new systems and the ability to run reports

The salary range for this position is $95,000 - $115,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
