Job summary

R.J Corman Railroad Switching Co LLC is seeking personnel to operate specialized equipment for track inspection, installation and maintenance in Louisiana. The role emphasizes safety, adherence to DOT regulations, and maintaining equipment in peak condition.

Applicants should be capable of performing labor tasks and communicating effectively with supervisors on site. The position involves daily equipment operation, preventive maintenance, and ensuring proper PPE usage in a fast-paced outdoor

Qualifications

• Demonstrated operation experience and equipment knowledge.
• Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot simple mechanical failures.
• Previous railroad construction or maintenance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate specialized equipment (e.g., Backhoe) for track inspection, installation, and maintenance.
• Perform preventive maintenance on heavy or specialized equipment.
• Maintain equipment appearance and cleanliness.
• May perform labor duties as needed.
• Communicate with supervisor throughout the job process.
• Ensure safe working conditions and proper PPE usage as required.
• Follow DOT regulations and driving permits as needed.

Job description

Accountability:

Operates specialized equipment in support of inspection, installation, and maintenance of railroad track

Responsibilities:

• o Operate Specialized equipment. (i.e. Backhoe, etc.)
• o Performs preventative maintenance on heavy or specialized equipment.
• o Maintains proper equipment appearance and cleanliness.
• o May perform labor duties as needed.
• o Communicates with supervisor throughout the job process.
• o Ensures working conditions are safe and that proper PPE is being used as job duties require.
• o Follow DOT regulations; ensuring proper permits and driving regulations are followed.

Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience:

• o Demonstrated operation experience and equipment knowledge.
• o Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot simple mechanical failures.
• o Previous experience in railroad construction or maintenance preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• o Able to perform physical strenuous work
• o Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
• o Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs
• o Requires occasional use of 30 lb claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50 lbs of force
• o Requires occasional use of 10 lb sledge hammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75 lbs of force
• o Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner
• o Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary

Environmental Conditions:

Work is performed outside in varying types of environmental conditions.

Major or Unusual Problems:

Must carry out responsibilities in a fast-paced outside RR / construction environment. Requires efficient development and performance of processes; and requires ability to multitask in a time sensitive environment. High visibility position requires professional demeanor in interactions with Supervisors, employees, contractors and customers.

Job Dimensions:

Interfaces with all levels of employees and management. Performs duties under general supervision with limited discretion. Does not directly supervise employees.
