Job summary

The City of Alexandria is seeking an Equipment Operator II in the Utility Services Department to operate backhoes, trucks, and related equipment for maintenance of streets, drainage, and public works. Emphasis is on safe operation in confined spaces and skill in handling larger vehicles.

Work hours are 40 per week with possible overtime; applicants must hold a Class B CDL and may need a Flagging certification. The City offers a comprehensive benefits package and retirement plan.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) required; may need Flagging certification.

Responsibilities

• Operates backhoe to perform basic digging, trenching, and clearing for maintenance and utility projects.
• Inspects and prepares equipment for safe operation; performs light maintenance and refueling as needed.
• Responds to emergency calls during inclement weather or other emergencies.
• Must be able to operate a Backhoe.
