Job summary

University of South Carolina is seeking a Backflow Tester to support the Plumbing unit in Columbia. This full-time role involves preventive maintenance of backflow devices, coordinating with a campus-wide team, and ensuring compliance with safety and code requirements.

Work hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., with a 12-month basis and a competitive starting salary. The position requires 2+ years of related experience, a valid driver’s license, and accreditation from a technical school

Qualifications

Requires job related accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program.
2+ years of job related experience; may be substituted by certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

Performs preventive maintenance relating to plumbing and mechanical needs including annual testing of backflow devices and related repairs.
Communicates with managers, supervisor, planner/scheduler, co-workers and Call Center; follows guidelines; plans, inspects, verifies and solves assigned issues.
Ensures corrective measures are provided; maintains strong customer service practices; ensures systems are in safe working order and compliant with codes and regulations.
Gains understanding of departmental performance measures; participates in PM activity planning and inventory updates; provides input for management reporting.
Assists Plumbing crew and Mechanical Crew; performs work under PM Mechanical crew supervisor.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 35 Job Duty Following the supervisor’s direction, assists with facilities campus wide inventory of backflow equipment by physically determining the type and location of backflow equipment; barcoding equipment using electronic mechanism; entering inventory and service data needs in a master database; taking part in the updating of inventory every twelve months; proving input for a recurring inventory of parts and supplies to support all planned activities for upcoming work quarters; and communicating with the PM Manager, Planner/Scheduler, supervisor, and various other departmental personnel. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 20 Job Duty Assists the Plumbing unit of a university-wide plumbing program for corrective and planned maintenance by planning, inspecting, verifying, and troubleshooting backflow related issues; communicating with the Plumbing Manager, and Backflow supervisor, area maintenance personnel, and the Call Center; using assigned work orders; performing physical backflow testing and repair work; developing and maintaining strong customer service practices; ensuring activities are well-planned, delivered and completed; ensuring work performed follows the departmental and OSHA safety guidelines, policies and regulations; ensuring that systems are in safe working order and are compliant with the national and local codes and regulations; and exhibiting a professional demeanor including conduct, appearance, and work practices.
