Job summary

Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a Backfiller on 3rd shift at our Longview, NC plant. The role fills pillows/cushions with feather, down or polyester fiber and requires lifting on a repetitive basis. Full-time, with competitive hourly pay and shift differential.

Applicants should have high school or GED, some sewing/manufacturing experience, and be able to read orders and tape measures. Health insurance, profit sharing, and tuition reimbursement are offered.

Responsibilities

• Fill pillows/cushions with feather, down or polyester fiber.
• Read and interpret work orders to complete tasks.

• Maintain a steady pace in a high-volume department.
• Weigh filled ticks to meet quality specs.
• Move completed ticks to closing area for packaging.

Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a Backfiller on 3rd shift at our Longview, NC manufacturing plant. This position is responsible for filling pillows / cushion ticks (covers) with natural feather, down or polyester fiber products. Lifting on a repetitive basis is required with this position.

• Ability to read and interpret work orders
• Fill fiber and feather backs and seats
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Maintain stead work pace in a high-volume department
• Must be able to read and interpret a tape measure
• Perform basis math skills
• Hold tick (cover) over the port to allow the blowing of filler material into the pillow / cushion ticks.
• Weigh each filled pillow / cover on a scale to maintain quality standards based on customer specifications.
• Move the filled ticks (covers) to the end closing area to enclose the openings.
• Learn how to enclose the pillows / cushions using the enclosing (sewing) machine.
• Prior experience in fiber manufacturing environment preferred but not required.
• Major duties and responsibilities of the job can be satisfactorily performed with a high school education or GED

Work Hours: Sunday-Thursday 9:00 pm-5:30 am depending on business needs

Hourly Rate: $20.20 - $20.79 per hour with $1.00 shift differential for all hours worked on 3rd shift.
