Job summary

Carpenter Co. in Mount Airy, NC, has immediate openings for a Material Handler on 2nd shift (Mon-Fri, 3:30pm–12:00am). The role involves assembling foam parts, assisting machine operators with materials, and keeping the workspace clean and organized to meet production and shipping schedules.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, basic reading/writing/math, and some computer experience. Training is provided; familiarity with SAP is a plus. Shift premium applies for 2nd shift.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assemble foam parts and assist the machine operator with materials.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly work area and label properly.
  • Wrap, seal, and label foam per customer specs and quantities.
  • Print stock and shipping labels or enter production figures into SAP.
  • Perform routine lightweight maintenance on machinery.
  • Use air blowgun for housekeeping.
  • Operate hot glue machine to seal packaging material.
  • Ensure adherence to production and shipping schedules.

Carpenter Co. has immediate openings for a Material Handler on 2nd shift at our Mount Airy, NC manufacturing plant. This position is responsible for assembling foam parts, assisting the machine operator with materials for the machines and maintaining the department/area in clean condition free of unnecessary material and/or debris in our Bedding department.

Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations excellence. The successful candidate will be able to communicate with department supervisors, department operators, and production personnel on a daily basis, and maintain a well-organized work area that is safely stacked and properly labeled to achieve the necessary results to meet production and shipping schedules.

Your additional responsibilities as a Material Handler will include:

  • Perform quality check process by measuring material and ensuring that it matches the specification on each label
  • Perimeter edge foam manufacturing and packaging
  • Wrap, seal, and label foam according to customer specifications and customer quantities
  • Print stock and shipping labels or enter production figures into SAP
  • Help perform routine simple maintenance on machinery
  • Use air blowgun for housekeeping purposes
  • Operate hot glue machine to seal packaging material
  • Ensure work area is clean and orderly by disposing of departmental waste

Skills and requirements

  • High school education or GED required.
  • On the job training is provided, prior manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Must have basic reading, writing and math skills.
  • Must have some computer experience and be able to use a computer in day-to-day operations.
  • Must be able to read and interpret tape measure.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to work with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to work in a continuous fast- paced environment with attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays and call-in with little notice.

Shift Hours: Monday - Friday, 3:30pm to 12:00am

Payrate: $17.05 to $17.32

Carpenter Co. offers $.25 per hour shift differential for all hours worked on 2nd shift.
