Job summary

Uber is seeking a Software Engineer II for its Marketplace teams in San Francisco. You will design, build, and maintain backend services that power millions of riders and merchants, with a focus on reliability and scale.

You’ll own features end-to-end, collaborate with Product, Data Science, and Ops, implement tests, monitor systems, and help reduce technical debt in high-load distributed systems. This is an in-office role with flexible in-office expectations and equity/bonus opportunities.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience in backend development, distributed systems, or data engineering.
• Proficiency in Go, Java, Python, or C++ and strong data modeling skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality backend code for moderate-complexity features.
• Build and scale infrastructure and data pipelines with attention to long-term impact.
• Own software lifecycle end-to-end, from design docs to production incident handling.
• Collaborate with Product, Data Science, and Ops to translate requirements into system designs.
• Provide quality code reviews, comprehensive tests, and performance improvements.
• Navigate internal dependencies and ensure production reliability.
