You will design, build and operate high-performance backend systems, mentor engineers, and collaborate with stakeholders as part of a significant transformation with strong ownership and hands-on coding.

$120,000–$160,000 + bonus & benefits | Boston, MA | Hybrid – 3 days onsite | Permanent

We’re hiring a Mid-to-Senior Backend Software Engineer to join the Boston technology team of an investment bank, working on the modernisation of one of the bank’s core legacy platforms.

This is a significant engineering transformation involving the design and development of strategic, high-performance systems connected to trillions of dollars in global liquidity and capital.

We’re looking for strong backend engineers who enjoy solving complex problems, designing scalable systems and taking technical ownership while remaining very hands-on with the code.

What you’ll be doing:

• Designing and building high-performance backend systems
• Helping modernise and replace components of a core legacy platform
• Working across architecture, design and hands-on development
• Building scalable services and microservices
• Carrying out code reviews and helping maintain engineering standards
• Mentoring and supporting other engineers
• Working closely with technical and business stakeholders

What we’re looking for:

• Strong backend software engineering experience
• Commercial experience with Java, Python or C#
• Strong problem-solving and system design skills
• Experience building scalable, distributed or high-performance systems
• Experience with code reviews and supporting other engineers

You don’t need to tick every technology box. We’re interested in strong backend engineers first and foremost.

Experience with some of the following would be particularly useful:

• Java
• Kafka
• Azure or other cloud platforms
• Cucumber / BDD
• Automated testing
• Distributed systems

Salary: $120,000–$160,000 + bonus & benefits
