Job summary

CarGurus' Conversion team is seeking a Software Development Engineer II (Backend) to help dealers close more of the leads we send them. You will work in Java and Spring Boot services that enrich each lead, consume high-volume event streams, and power the dashboards dealers rely on.

You'll own features from design through production in a small team, collaborating with product, design, and other engineers to ship impactful capabilities and improve dealer outcomes.

Qualifications

• 2-4 years of hands‑on software development experience in a professional setting.
• Proficiency in Java, ideally with Spring Boot.
• Solid working knowledge of MongoDB or another NoSQL datastore, and comfort with SQL.
• RESTful API design, microservices, and distributed systems knowledge.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS and cloud infrastructure.
• Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and complexity.
• Experience with automated testing and AI coding tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and ship features in Java/Spring Boot that enrich leads and power dealer insights.
• Own work from design through testing, code review, and production, with team support.
• Work with high-volume event streams (Kafka, MongoDB, Redis) to keep data fresh and APIs fast.
• Build intelligence features, including LLM-backed ones, to suggest dealer actions.
• Diagnose and fix production issues; participate in on-call and improve observability.
• Collaborate with product/design to break problems into scoped, shippable work.
• Help raise the bar on testing, deployment, and operations of services.
