Job summary

Chewy is hiring a Software Engineer I for the WIZMO team in Seattle, WA. The role focuses on building backend services and APIs for Chewy’s post-purchase experiences, with opportunities to contribute to scalable, observable systems at Chewy-scale.

You will work with Java, Kotlin, Scala, or similar statically typed languages, participate in design reviews, and collaborate across engineering, product, and partner teams to deliver reliable software and strong customer experiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent work experience.
• Experience with statically typed languages such as Java, Scala, Kotlin, C#, Swift, GO.
• Strong CS fundamentals: OO design, data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis.
• SQL and RDBMS experience.
• Experience in agile development, code reviews, and operations.
• Experience building scalable, highly available systems.
• Strong communication and mentoring skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support backend services and APIs powering Chewy's WIZMO and post-purchase experiences.
• Contribute to roadmap initiatives improving order visibility, carrier integrations, and fulfillment capabilities.
• Build reliable software, improve testing coverage, and enhance scalability, observability, and reliability of production services.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and on-call support with engineers, product managers, and partner teams across Chewy.
