Chewy is seeking a Backend Software Engineer I for our Release Engineering team in Boston, MA. You will enhance systems with automation, improve developer experience, and build observability metrics for Chewy's e-commerce platform.

This role offers collaboration across the engineering organization and a hybrid work model with 3 days in the office. Located in Boston, MA, you will work on a high-performing team contributing to self-service solutions and enterprise platforms while handling on-call

Qualifications

• BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• 1+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience in Java, Python, and AWS.
• Team oriented with a customer-first mindset.
• Strong fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis.
• Hands-on coding and debugging of challenging issues.
• Knowledge of software engineering practices across the SDLC.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to every stage of the software development lifecycle.
• Drive rapid prototyping and iterative development.
• Debug production issues across services and tech stack.
• Measure and optimize performance, uptime, and efficiency of backend services.
• Apply data structures and design patterns for scalable code.
• Collaborate to standardize workflows, modules, and tooling.
• Participate in design and code reviews and on-call rotations.
