Job summary

Pascall Systems, Inc. in Cambridge, MA is seeking a software engineer to strengthen the backend powering our EEG-based brain state monitoring platform. You will work with the software, hardware, and clinical teams to connect data from the device into hospital IT and EHR systems, including vital-signs middleware and Epic integration.

The role offers hybrid work in Cambridge, MA, with latitude to shape roadmap, prototype new ideas, and tackle complex, real-world medical-device software challenges.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of industry experience building commercial software (backend or full-stack).
• Creative, independent problem-solver who finds simpler paths and repurposes tools.
• Able to scope ambiguous objectives and drive them to completion with minimal guidance.
• Strong coding in Python and Java.
• Experience connecting systems over a network, defining APIs and data contracts.
• Solid testing, debugging, and design-patterns knowledge with root-cause focus.
• Clear communicator with hospital IT/clinical engineering stakeholders.
• Documentation discipline for interfaces, decisions, and test evidence in regulated contexts.
• Experience with Firebase/GCP or AWS managed services and cloud architectures.
• Exposure to ML workflows, DevOps/MLOps, or physiological monitoring data.
• Comfort using AI-assisted development tools responsibly in regulated environments.

Responsibilities

• Build and strengthen the backend APIs for the Android client and data processing pipeline.
• Support field deployments, security reviews, and go-lives with clinical teams.
• Improve testing, defect prevention, and regression coverage across services.
• Investigate intermittent issues across backend, app, and device data paths.
• Build backend/data workflows to support modeling and data quality efforts.
• Contribute to design controls, verification, validation, and FDA-related documentation.
• Prototype new ideas quickly and propose novel approaches for clinicians and hospitals.
• Design integrations from the device to hospital systems (HL7, FHIR, EHR e.g. Epic).
