PASCALL Systems is seeking a hands-on hardware engineer to take end-to-end ownership of electronics for our EEG-based platform in a hybrid Cambridge, MA setting. You’ll drive circuit design, PCB layout, supplier relations, and test coordination while collaborating with firmware and systems teams.
The role grows with platform scope and regulated development needs. You’ll mentor interns, use AI-assisted workflows, and maintain rigorous documentation for designs and tests, enabling reliable
PASCALL is building the next generation of our EEG-based brain state monitoring platform, and we need someone who can own the electronics and hardware execution end-to-end — not just design circuits, but drive the surrounding work (vendor relationships, test coordination, documentation) that actually gets hardware shipped. This role exists to take that ownership off our current Lead Hardware Engineer's plate as the platform scope grows, with the electronics depth to keep pace on circuit and PCB work and the initiative to run with ambiguous problems.
You’ll work closely with our COO/VP Engineering (EE background) and our firmware and systems engineering team, and directly with external partners — electrode patch suppliers, ISO 13485 test houses, and contract engineering firms. You’ll own PCB schematic/layout work on test and prototype circuits, day-to-day supplier and test-house coordination, and the technical documentation that ties it together. This is a high-ownership role for someone ready to grow into more scope, not a narrowly-scoped component-selection job.
PASCALL actively uses agentic AI tools to accelerate development, documentation, and hardware test workflows. We welcome engineers who are comfortable experimenting with AI-assisted workflows and applying them responsibly in a regulated environment.
Design & Characterize Circuits: Design, prototype, and characterize analog and mixed-signal circuits — filters, signal conditioning, and power management — supporting EEG signal acquisition.
Own PCB Schematic & Layout: Develop and iterate PCB schematics and layouts for test circuits and prototype hardware.
Select Components: Select and characterize electronic components against design requirements (tolerance, thermal, power).
Support Integration & Debug: Support hardware/firmware integration and debug across device sub-systems.
Manage Supplier Relationships: Own day-to-day relationships with electrode patch and other hardware suppliers — specs, quality issues, delivery tracking.
Coordinate Test Houses: Coordinate testing schedules and deliverables with third-party ISO 13485 test houses.
Design & Run Experiments: Design and execute experiments to validate hardware performance, including use of physiological signal generators/simulators, and analyze resulting data.
Perform QC Testing: Perform quality control testing using circuit-level analysis techniques.
Coordinate Cross-Functionally: Coordinate hardware-related work across firmware, algorithms, and external consultants (mechanical design, contract engineering).
Document Rigorously: Produce and maintain technical documentation for designs, test protocols, and vendor specifications.
Analyze Data: Use Python (or similar) for basic data analysis and signal processing on test results.
Mentor Interns: Mentor interns on hardware fundamentals and lab practices as needed.
Use AI-assisted tools (e.g., LLM-powered coding assistants, automated documentation) to accelerate development tasks.
Apply AI tools responsibly within PASCALL's regulated development environment.

Familiarity with Python for data analysis or test automation
PASCALL is a Cambridge-based medical device company focused on advancing neuroscience-based personalized anesthesia monitoring. Our team includes leading academic and clinical experts from MIT, Harvard, Stanford, and Massachusetts General Hospital.
We achieved ISO 13485 certification for medical device design and development and received FDA 510(k) clearance for our first platform system in 2022. We are now building the next generation of EEG-based brain state algorithms to improve anesthesia care and patient outcomes worldwide. We are a small team solving problems that do not have textbook answers, and we give engineers real ownership over the direction of the product.
Our vision is to bring personalized, science-based anesthesia care to all patients.
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Cambridge, MA 02139
