Job summary

ERGO NEXT Insurance is seeking a Backend Software Engineer in Waltham, MA. You will work with the latest backend technologies, mainly server-side Kotlin, and own the Agents Channel domain with frequent production releases.

Responsibilities include collaborating across product, marketing and engineering teams to iterate on solutions, owning features end-to-end, and using AI tooling to boost development productivity in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• At least 6+ years of backend development experience in Java/Kotlin or similar languages (Python, .NET).
• A B.Sc. in Computer Science or equivalent is required.
• Strong knowledge of OOP concepts and best practices.
• Hands-on development of distributed, cloud-based environments; AWS experience is a plus.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL.
• Adaptable, quick learner with strong communication and collaboration skills.

Location: Waltham, MA (Hybrid 3 days In Office)

Our Backend Software Engineer can expect to work with the latest backend technologies and programming languages. We’re big fans of server‑side Kotlin, and we produce clean, testable code fast and push it into production several times a day via our CI / CD pipeline. Additionally, our Backend Software Engineer will be supporting and owning our Agents Channel domain.

What You’ll Do

• You will work closely with other functional areas in the company product, marketing, and front‑end engineers to rapidly iterate on our product and find the best solutions to our challenges.
• You will take ownership of features – from inception through design and coding, eventually bringing your feature to production at a high level of quality and test coverage.
• Leverage AI and LLM‑powered tools to improve developer productivity and experimentation.

What We Need

• At least 6+ years of proven experience in Backend development. Java/Kotlin or similar languages (Python, .NET).
• A B.Sc. in Computer Science or equivalent is a must.
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of OOP concepts and best practices
• Hands‑on development of highly distributed, cloud‑based environments - an advantage. We work with AWS, but any cloud experience is a plus.
• Experience working with Relational Databases and good SQL skills.
• Adaptable, with a passion for quickly learning new technologies and working effectively in a dynamic environment
• Ability to navigate and work effectively across diverse domains and contexts.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

The range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire base salaries for the position in the location(s) listed. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including, without limitation, job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. ERGO NEXT employees are also potentially eligible for our annual performance‑based incentive program, in addition to our benefits package, consisting of our partially subsidized medical plan, fully subsidized vision/dental options, life insurance, disability insurance, 401(k), flexible paid time off, parental leave and more.

US Annual Base Salary Range For This Full‑time Position

$163,000—$220,000 USD
