Job summary

WEX, Inc. is seeking a Software Development Engineer 2 (Java 17+) to help modernize the Digital Credit Application backend. You will design and implement scalable microservices and a high-performance API layer that replaces legacy Salesforce-heavy workflows.

This remote-friendly role requires residency within 30 miles of Chicago, IL, or one of the listed locations. You will tackle data integrity, cloud-native architectures, and CI/CD processes to deliver fast, reliable features.

Qualifications

• 3-6 years of experience in AI-based backend software development, preferably in Fintech or e-commerce.
• Java Specialist: Deep hands-on experience with Java and the Spring ecosystem.
• API Design: Proven ability to build and scale RESTful services; GraphQL or gRPC a plus.
• Cloud & Databases: Experience with AWS (Lambda, EC2, RDS) and PostgreSQL/NoSQL.
• Message Brokers: Kafka or RabbitMQ experience.
• Modern Tooling: Docker, Kubernetes, Git, and Maven/Gradle.

Responsibilities

• Feature Development: Develop and maintain scalable microservices using Java 17+ and Spring Boot.
• Migration Support: Migrate Salesforce logic to cloud-native services without disrupting customers.
• API Craftsmanship: Build REST APIs for multi-channel frontends and A/B testing.
• Pluggable Logic: Create modular Adjudication components for third-party integrations.
• Data Integrity: Synchronize data between PostgreSQL databases and Salesforce using event-driven patterns.
• Quality & Testing: Write test-first code with JUnit/Mockito and contribute to CI/CD pipelines.
