Job summary

Machine Learning Technologies, LLC seeks a Senior Technical Lead to architect and deliver complex software for Labor Management of the Future (LMOF)/CREWS. You will lead hands-on Java/Spring Boot development, guide engineers, and drive architecture across microservices, data models, and enterprise integrations.

You will mentor engineers, refine configurations and business rules, and strengthen CI/CD, security, and observability practices while collaborating with Product Owners and stakeholders

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Senior Technical Lead leads the hands-on design, development, implementation, and delivery of complex software capabilities supporting the Labor Management of the Future (LMOF)/CREWS project. The role requires deep Java and Spring Boot expertise to deliver configurable, reusable, scalable, resilient, and maintainable enterprise applications.

This role extends beyond individual API development to foundational capabilities used across business functions and applications, including configuration-driven solutions, business rules processing, shared libraries, reusable frameworks, microservices, event-driven processing, and enterprise integrations.

Working with Product Owners, Engineers, Architects, and business stakeholders, the Senior Technical Lead translates requirements into working software aligned with established technical direction. The individual remains actively involved in coding, code reviews, implementation decisions, troubleshooting, and mentoring; this is a hands-on engineering role rather than a primarily advisory or people-management position.

• Lead hands-on Java/Spring Boot development throughout the software development lifecycle, including coding, code reviews, automated testing, deployment, and production support.
• Translate business and technical requirements into implementable software components; guide engineers, evaluate implementation approaches, and communicate technical trade-offs, risks, and dependencies.
• Design configuration-driven capabilities and implement, integrate, or extend business rules engines and rules-processing frameworks, separating configurable behavior from core application code where appropriate.
• Build shared libraries, reusable frameworks, SDKs, common components, and services that reduce duplication and improve consistency, maintainability, and delivery efficiency across applications and teams.
• Implement microservices, REST APIs, and enterprise integrations, applying domain-driven design principles, service decomposition, and bounded contexts where appropriate.
• Develop Kafka producers and consumers with reliable event processing, monitoring, error handling, and recovery; apply resiliency patterns such as retries, circuit breakers, asynchronous processing, and dead-letter handling.
• Design application data models, develop complex SQL queries and data operations, and optimize database and application performance.
• Develop and support cloud-native applications in AWS; improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, DevSecOps, and software quality practices.
• Apply secure coding and application security practices and implement observability through logging, monitoring, metrics, alerting, and distributed tracing.
• Diagnose and resolve application, integration, messaging, configuration, database, and performance issues across development, test, and production environments.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, knowledge sharing, troubleshooting, and hands-on development support.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, Engineers, QA/SDET, DevOps, and business stakeholders to deliver solutions consistent with established technical direction and engineering standards.

Required Technical Competencies:

Advanced Java & Application Engineering

• Deep Java, Spring Boot, and Spring Framework expertise, including dependency injection, custom configuration, auto-configuration, and framework extensibility.
• Configuration- and rules-driven application development, including externalized and runtime configuration, metadata-driven behavior, and business rules engines or rules-processing frameworks.
• Reusable software engineering across shared libraries, frameworks, SDKs, components, or services, with sound dependency management, versioning, backward compatibility, extensibility, and testing practices.
• Strong object-oriented design, modular development, and design-pattern fundamentals, with the ability to translate complex business rules into maintainable, configurable, and testable software.

Application Data & Performance Engineering

• Application data modeling and relational and/or NoSQL database integration, including strong SQL development and database performance troubleshooting skills.
• Hands-on microservices, REST API, and enterprise integration development, including Kafka producers and consumers and reliable event-processing solutions.
• Working knowledge of domain-driven design, service decomposition, bounded contexts, and distributed-system resiliency patterns, including retries, circuit breakers, asynchronous processing, and dead-letter handling.
• AWS application development and support using applicable services such as Lambda, S3, EC2, API Gateway, SNS, SQS, CloudWatch, and CloudFormation.
• Cloud deployment and Infrastructure as Code practices supporting application scalability, resiliency, security, and performance.

Software Delivery, Quality & Operational Engineering

• CI/CD, DevSecOps, automated testing, and software quality engineering using Git, Jenkins, Jira, or comparable development and delivery tools.
• Secure application development, including OAuth2, JWT, API security, secrets management, and secure coding principles.
• Application observability through logging, monitoring, metrics, alerting, and distributed tracing.
• Cross-environment troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, production readiness, operational support, and application reliability.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including at least 8 years of hands-on Java development.
• 5+ years of hands-on enterprise application development using Java, Spring Boot, REST services, and related technologies.
• 3+ years in a Senior Technical Lead, Lead Engineer, Principal Engineer, or equivalent hands-on technical leadership role.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience applying the required technical competencies above to enterprise software delivery.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and lead complex implementations while remaining actively engaged in development.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift.
• Experience with observability and monitoring platforms such as CloudWatch, Splunk, Grafana, Datadog, OpenTelemetry, or comparable technologies.
• Experience working with modern web application development teams; Angular experience is preferred.
