Job summary

Stripe is seeking a backend engineer to own end-to-end integrations with banks and fintech partners, building reliable APIs and shared components. You will work across integration, platform, and product layers to deliver money-movement capabilities and ensure financial correctness.

You will write maintainable code in Java or Ruby, participate in design reviews, and contribute to on-call rotation. The role emphasizes independence, collaboration, and shipping robust software in Stripe Money

Qualifications

• 4+ years of backend software experience in production systems.
• Proficiency in Java or Ruby with maintainable code and tests.
• Ability to scope projects and make technical tradeoffs.
• Experience debugging distributed services with RPC APIs and data pipelines; understanding retries and failure recovery.
• Ability to explain technical decisions clearly and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend integrations with banks and financial technology partners, and extend existing integrations to support new money movement capabilities.
• Own projects from understanding user needs and writing technical designs through implementation, testing, rollout, and production support.
• Work across integration, platform, and product layers to make new capabilities available through consistent APIs and workflows, coordinating designs and reviews with the teams that own those systems.
• Develop reusable components and tooling that reduce duplicated work across integrations and make future development and maintenance simpler.
• Build for financial correctness, security, and reliability through automated tests, monitoring, and safe handling of failures.
• Participate in the team's on-call rotation after onboarding, investigate production issues across services, and improve runbooks and automation to prevent recurring problems.
• Contribute thoughtful code reviews and documentation, and use AI-assisted development tools while taking responsibility for understanding, testing, and maintaining the resulting code
