Job summary

Fathom is seeking a backend engineer who can improve reliability, scalability, and efficiency of mission-critical services while building new capabilities. You will work across backend, infrastructure, and applications teams, addressing both core systems and long-tail problems with existing services.

You’ll help scale our services across regions, participate in architecture discussions, and deliver customer-focused improvements with a strong emphasis on async, high-throughput workloads.

Qualifications

• Proficiency with Rails, ActiveRecord, and SQL performance optimization.
• Experience with Kubernetes and Go or a systems language; GC and profiling know-how.
• Familiarity with GCP/GKE, Linux, Docker, Redis, and streaming tech is a plus.
• Experience at scale in SaaS or PaaS environments handling large async workloads.

Responsibilities

• Improve reliability, scalability, and efficiency of mission-critical services.
• Develop new services and tackle long-tail issues with existing ones.
• Collaborate with backend, infra, and customer-support teams to enhance user experiences.
• Lead architecture discussions and evaluate technology candidates for evolution.
