Job summary

SumUp is building a global transfer platform to power payments for millions of businesses. Join a backend-focused squad working on high-throughput, reliable services using Kotlin, Java, Go, and Elixir, with AWS, Kafka, PostgreSQL, and Kubernetes.

You will own end-to-end delivery from development to observability, contribute to architectural decisions, and help raise the team’s AI literacy with modern tooling.

Qualifications

• Experience as Backend Software Engineer on modern languages (Kotlin/Go/Java).
• Understanding of distributed systems and event-driven architecture.
• Experience with microservices, Spring Boot, and API design.
• Comfortable in high-throughput, regulated environments; reliability-focused.
• Strong written and spoken English, globally distributed collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend services powering SumUp's transfer infrastructure.
• Contribute to migrating to a unified global transfer platform.
• Raise PRs, review code, ensure test coverage and quality.
• Participate in incident reviews and on-call rotations.
