Affirms is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, offering consumers transparent BNPL options.

As a Backend Software Engineer on the Checkout Platform team, you will design and scale the core financial engines that handle every transaction processed by Affirm. In this hands-on role, you will build microservices, REST/gRPC APIs using Python and Kotlin, and collaborate with product leaders to improve speed, availability, and resilience for millions of customers.

Qualifications

• Proven backend development experience at scale.
• Hands-on with REST/gRPC APIs and microservices.
• Strong ownership and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high-concurrency microservices and API interfaces managing checkout workflows.
• Identify performance bottlenecks and optimize queries, caching, and latency for uptime.
• Own key checkout components and ensure operational health and long-term maintainability.
• Collaborate with product, frontend, and infra teams to translate requirements into scalable designs.
• Drive code quality through testing, reviews, documentation and knowledge sharing.
