Job summary

Kobalt Labs is hiring a Backend Software Engineer to own products end-to-end, from understanding the customer problem to building and operating the solution in production. You will design backend systems powering AI-driven risk and compliance workflows and own architecture from day one.

As part of a collaborative team, you will build reliable APIs and data pipelines, improve performance and scalability, and partner with Customer Success to translate customer needs into technical solutions.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building backend applications and APIs.
• Strong understanding of databases, data modeling, distributed systems, and production infrastructure.
• Experience designing and owning substantial backend systems from initial architecture through production.
• Ability to reason through complex technical problems and make thoughtful architectural tradeoffs.
• Strong attention to reliability, performance, and maintainability.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend systems that power Kobalt's core products and workflows.
• Build AI-powered features that automate complex, historically manual risk and compliance work.
• Own technical projects end-to-end, from architecture and data modeling through implementation, deployment, and iteration.
• Build reliable APIs, data pipelines, and infrastructure that support increasingly complex customer workflows.
• Improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of our systems as Kobalt grows.
• Work closely with other engineers and Customer Success to understand customer needs and turn them into technical solutions.
