Job summary

Normal Computing is hiring a Software Engineer to build backend runtimes and distributed systems powering our AI products. You’ll design orchestration services, execution environments, internal APIs, and persistence layers that enable AI agents to perform long-running work reliably.

You will work across backend, AI, and platform engineering to ensure interfaces between capabilities and production services are clear, scalable, and secure, turning ambitious prototypes into durable,

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering experience in backend systems, distributed systems, or developer platforms.
• Strong API design, data modeling, concurrency, debugging, and testing.
• Experience operating production services with reliability and observability focus.
• Experience reasoning about distributed state, retries, queues, leases, and long-running workflows.
• Practical experience with containers and Kubernetes-backed systems, including lifecycle, networking, resource limits, and production debugging.
• Experience with production data systems (Postgres, Redis) and object storage.
• Experience building orchestration systems, workflow engines, or distributed execution systems.
• Track record of designing APIs and abstractions used by other engineers.
• Pragmatic judgment in fast-moving environments and ownership of production behavior.

Responsibilities

• Build backend runtimes and distributed systems behind AI products.
• Design orchestration services, execution environments, and internal APIs.
• Develop persistence layers, observability systems, and reliable state management.
• Coordinate workloads across distributed environments and secure code execution.
• Turn prototypes into durable systems by clarifying boundaries and hardening paths.
• Create developer-facing abstractions and tools to extend the platform.
• Define interfaces between AI capabilities, execution environments, and production services.
• Collaborate with product, AI, research, and platform engineers on runtime architecture.
