About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer to join our remote team working within US time zones. This is a contract-to-hire position designed for professionals who excel in building scalable, reliable, and secure backend systems. As a core member of our engineering team, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining the backend infrastructure that powers our API-driven marketplace products. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering high-quality production code, owning features from conception to deployment, and collaborating effectively across teams.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess over five years of professional experience in backend engineering, with a strong emphasis on delivering robust production systems. Proficiency in Python and modern API frameworks such as FastAPI or equivalent is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of RESTful API design, backend service architecture, and relational database management, particularly with PostgreSQL. Experience deploying and operating services within AWS cloud environments, utilizing containers like Docker, and managing CI/CD pipelines is highly desirable. Additional qualifications include familiarity with integrating third-party APIs, writing automated tests, and maintaining high standards of code quality and reliability. A passion for leveraging AI-powered development tools to enhance productivity and code quality is highly valued.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable and secure backend services and REST APIs that serve our marketplace platform. You will own features end-to-end, from initial design and implementation through testing, deployment, and ongoing monitoring in production environments. Your responsibilities will include modeling, evolving, and optimizing our PostgreSQL data layer, ensuring efficient schema design, indexing, and query performance. You will also be tasked with integrating with third-party APIs and internal services, emphasizing reliability and robust error handling. Writing automated tests and maintaining a high standard for code quality and system reliability will be core to your daily work. Additionally, you will deploy and operate services on AWS, leveraging CI/CD pipelines, logging, metrics, and alerting to maintain observability. Collaboration with product managers, frontend developers, and other engineers will be crucial to rapidly shipping features, iterating on solutions, and delivering value to users. Embracing AI-powered development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and Copilot will be integral to accelerating development cycles and enhancing code quality.
