About The Role
The role builds and maintains the backend services that power user-facing products serving hundreds of thousands of daily active users. Day-to-day work spans API design, data modeling, distributed systems, and performance tuning — with real ownership over services that ship to production weekly. You will work closely with frontend and mobile engineers to define contracts and with infrastructure teams to keep systems reliable, observable, and cost-efficient. Decisions made in this role directly shape product capabilities and system architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate production APIs and microservices in Python, Go, or Node.js, owning services from architecture through deployment
- Model and optimize relational and non-relational data stores (PostgreSQL, Redis, DynamoDB), including schema design, indexing strategy, and query performance
- Build and maintain event-driven pipelines using Kafka or SQS, ensuring at-least-once delivery guarantees and idempotent processing
- Improve system reliability through observability tooling — Datadog dashboards, structured logging, alerting thresholds, and postmortem-driven improvements
- Write unit, integration, and load tests; maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions and participate in on-call rotation
- Collaborate with frontend and mobile engineers to design clean, versioned API contracts and iterate on them as product requirements evolve
- Lead technical design reviews and mentor mid-level engineers on code quality, system design, and operational excellence
What We Are Looking For
- 3–7 years of backend engineering experience, with at least 2 years building and operating production services at scale
- Strong proficiency in one or more of: Python, Go, Java, or Node.js, with deep understanding of concurrency and API design patterns
- Hands‑on experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL or MySQL) and at least one caching or messaging technology (Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ)
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), containers (Docker/Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
- Track record of shipping user-facing features end-to-end in a fast‑moving product environment
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience; comfort with distributed systems fundamentals (consistency, availability, idempotency)
- Bonus: Experience with GraphQL, gRPC, or service mesh architectures; contributions to open‑source infrastructure tooling; prior experience in a hybrid SF‑based product org
