Qualifications

The role builds the backend services and APIs that power user-facing products used by millions of customers daily. Day-to-day work spans designing distributed systems in Go and Python, optimizing PostgreSQL and Redis data layers, and shipping event-driven services on Kafka running in AWS.

This is a core engineering position with real ownership: the engineer will design service architectures, make infrastructure decisions, and ship features that directly shape the product experience. The team values engineers who understand that reliability, latency, and developer velocity all matter.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend services in Go or Python, owning them from architecture through production deployment
• Develop REST and gRPC APIs with strong contracts, thorough testing, and clear documentation for internal and external consumers
• Model and optimize data layers in PostgreSQL and Redis, including schema design, query tuning, and caching strategies
• Build event-driven pipelines using Kafka for real-time processing and system decoupling
• Instrument services with observability tooling - Prometheus, Grafana, distributed tracing - and own on-call reliability for systems the engineer builds
• Lead code reviews, contribute to architecture decision records, and raise the engineering bar for the broader team
• Partner with frontend and mobile engineers to define API contracts and ship cross-platform features end-to-end

What We Are Looking For

• 3–7 years of backend engineering experience building and operating production services at scale
• Expert proficiency in at least one of: Go, Python, Java, or Ruby, with strong CS fundamentals (data structures, concurrency, distributed systems)
• Deep experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) including schema design and query optimization
• Hands-on experience with AWS or GCP - ECS/Kubernetes, S3, managed databases, IAM - and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform preferred)
• Track record of designing APIs consumed by multiple teams or external clients, with attention to versioning, rate limiting, and backward compatibility
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
• Bonus: Experience with Kafka or other streaming systems, Redis at scale, GraphQL, or contributions to open-source infrastructure tooling
