About The Role

As a Backend Engineer (AI), you will help build the backend platform, infrastructure, and orchestration systems at the heart of the product. You will work across backend services, AI infrastructure, inference, distributed systems, and production reliability, contributing from early design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing improvement.

You will have substantial ownership from day one. That includes identifying technical challenges, evaluating trade-offs, shaping architecture, and taking responsibility for the systems you put into production. The role suits an engineer who is comfortable with ambiguity, changing priorities, and a fast development pace. This is not a conventional 9-to-5 position; periods of longer hours may be required as the team works toward important milestones.

Qualifications

We are interested in exceptional engineering ability rather than a specific number of years of experience or an exact match to every technology listed. You should have a strong background building and operating production backend systems, along with practical understanding of APIs, distributed systems, data infrastructure, scalability, and reliability.

Experience with production AI systems, large language model applications, AI agents, inference infrastructure, or orchestration is especially relevant. Experience in a founding engineering role, as an early employee, or at a fast-moving startup or scale-up can be valuable. The current technology environment includes Python, Node.js, PyTorch, SQL and NoSQL databases, Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenAI, Anthropic, and open-source language models. Familiarity with these tools is helpful, but your ability to learn and solve complex engineering challenges matters more than having used each one.

Design, build, and operate backend services and infrastructure that support a reliable AI-native consumer product. Develop systems for coordinating model inference, tools, services, and multi-step workflows. Contribute to architectural decisions and help establish engineering practices suited to an evolving product and a small team. Improve performance, scalability, observability, and resilience across production systems. Investigate technical issues, assess emerging needs, and turn complex problems into maintainable solutions. Collaborate closely with engineering and product colleagues, communicate trade-offs clearly, and take end-to-end ownership of work from concept to production.
