Consortia is seeking exceptional Backend Engineers to help build an AI native consumer product from the ground up. This is a genuine 0 to 1 opportunity with significant ownership from day one, shaping backend platform, infrastructure and orchestration at the heart of the product.
You'll work in a fast-moving, equity-backed startup environment with fully remote work, high expectations, and a competitive compensation package above market rates.
We're partnering with a well funded AI company building an ambitious AI native consumer product from the ground up.
Backed by an already successful technology business serving millions of users globally, with over $100m committed to the new venture, they're assembling a small, elite engineering team to build one of the most ambitious consumer AI products currently in development.
This is a genuine early stage startup environment. The team is small, expectations are high and the pace is intense. This won't be a conventional 9 to 5 engineering role and there will be periods of longer hours as the team pushes to build and ship quickly.
For the right engineer, that's a big part of the attraction. You'll have genuine influence over the architecture and product at a stage where important decisions are still being made. In return for that level of commitment, the company is offering highly competitive, above market compensation alongside meaningful equity.
The founding engineering team already includes people from companies such as Google, ByteDance, Instacart and Proton, and they're now looking for exceptional Backend Engineers who enjoy solving difficult problems across AI, distributed systems and production infrastructure.
This is a genuine 0 to 1 opportunity where you'll have significant ownership from day one, helping build the backend platform, infrastructure and orchestration systems at the heart of the product.
The ambition is to create an AI native consumer product that goes beyond simply answering questions. The engineering challenge is turning modern AI capabilities into a reliable production system capable of reasoning, interacting with tools and services, and completing complex workflows for users.
You'll work across backend systems, AI infrastructure, inference, orchestration and distributed systems.
This isn't about joining an established platform where everything has already been decided. You'll be expected to identify problems, make architectural decisions, challenge ideas, build quickly and take ownership of what you put into production.
They're far more interested in exceptional engineering ability than a particular number of years' experience or an exact technology match.
You'll likely have strong experience building production backend systems, with knowledge of distributed systems, APIs, data infrastructure, reliability and scalability.
Experience with production AI systems, LLM applications, agents, inference infrastructure or orchestration would be particularly relevant.
Previous experience as a founding engineer, early employee or within a fast moving startup or scale up would also translate extremely well.
They're much more interested in your ability to solve difficult engineering problems than whether you've worked with every technology on that list.
This opportunity won't be for everyone.
It's best suited to someone who actively wants the intensity of building at a very early stage. The expectations are high, you'll have considerable autonomy and there will be periods of long hours and changing priorities.
If you're excited by 0 to 1 engineering, difficult technical problems, moving quickly and having genuine influence over both the product and architecture, this could be an exceptional opportunity.
The positions are fully remote, with highly competitive, above market compensation and meaningful equity available.
If you're looking for the ownership and impact of a founding stage startup and genuinely enjoy the intensity that comes with it, I'd be delighted to tell you more.
