Hiring Range

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The salary range the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $92,200 - $115,300

About the Job

The Baccalaureate Operations Supervisor provides operational leadership and administrative oversight for the baccalaureate phase of the SJV PRIME+ program. The position supervises professional staff responsible for baccalaureate program operations, student assessment, co-curricular programming, faculty and departmental administration, as well as operational services.

The Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of program operations across multiple functional areas, serving as the primary operational leader for the baccalaureate program. This includes maintaining standardized processes, building staff capacity, promoting cross-functional collaboration, and ensuring operational readiness as the program prepares for its first cohort to transition into the MD curriculum. Working closely with program leadership, faculty, and institutional partners, the Supervisor develops and maintains sustainable operational practices that support organizational effectiveness and long‑term program growth.

The ideal candidate is a skilled operations and program management professional who leverages expertise in higher education administration, staff leadership, and process improvement to build organizational capacity and ensure the long‑term sustainability and growth of the SJV PRIME+ program. This position reports to the Medical Education Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages the overall operations of the baccalaureate phase of the SJV PRIME+ BS/MD program. Oversees operational delivery and continuous improvement activities. Participates in the development and monitoring of policies and procedures for departmental operations. In collaboration with DOME leadership develops, implements, and oversees assessment systems, streamlines processes and enforces guidelines to ensure consistent, effective, and coordinated baccalaureate program operations.

Maintain and oversee implementation of standardized operating procedures (SOPs), workflows, and program documentation.
Monitor compliance with established processes and service standards.
Contribute to development of operational goals, performance indicators, and resource planning.
Ensure consistent application of policies, procedures, and program requirements.
Monitor operational effectiveness and identify opportunities for process improvement.
Recommend enhancements to systems, processes, and organizational structures that improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Lead operational reviews and process improvement initiatives.

Participate in recruiting and conduct new employee orientation. Recommend changes in staffing and budget to ensure the efficient operation of the program. Evaluate staff performance and competency and define development goals. Train staff, participate in strategic planning, analysis, and program management techniques. Mentor staff in meeting professional goals and developing growth areas. Assist DOME and program leadership in coordinating staff development and training. Exercises independent judgment in the recruitment, selection, training, work assignment, performance management, corrective action, and professional development of staff in accordance with University policies and collective bargaining agreements.

Partner with the data and technology teams to develop systems to support and improve workflows for students, staff, and faculty.

Work with IT to plan and implement educational technologies to improve baccalaureate teaching and learning effectiveness of the SJV PRIME+ program.
Understand how other teams are utilizing technology and align with them in order to ensure consistency.
Ensure systems developed are designed and integrated into program needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training; and/or
• Master's degree in higher education, public administration, business administration, or related field (preferred); and
• Three years of directly related, progressively responsible experience in a supervisory capacity, and/or equivalent experience/training. A masters degree as outlined above is preferred and may substitute one year of experience (required).
• Solid knowledge of the organization's processes, protocols and procedures with a focus on budget, account and fund management and / or personnel management within labor contract(s) and personnel policy.
• Solid knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs.
• Solid interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising, and counseling to effectively motivate others.
