Job summary

Job description

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Administer Azure DevOps organizations, projects, teams, and project-level configurations in accordance with enterprise standards.
• Configure and maintain inherited process templates, work item types, fields, forms, states, transitions, rules, reason values, and backlog behavior.
• Design and manage work item hierarchies and relationships across portfolios, epics, features, user stories, tasks, defects, risks, issues, decisions, milestones, and other approved work item types.
• Configure and maintain Areas, Iterations, team backlogs, sprint settings, delivery plans, queries, charts, dashboards, and notifications.
• Partner with business and program stakeholders to evaluate configuration requests, identify platform constraints, recommend sustainable options, and implement approved changes.
• Perform impact analysis and regression validation before deploying changes to shared process templates or production projects.
• Plan and execute bulk work item creation, updates, imports, exports, and data corrections using supported Azure DevOps features, Excel integration, CSV, REST APIs, or approved migration utilities.
• Validate data quality after imports or configuration changes, including required fields, state mappings, parent-child relationships, links, assignments, history, and reporting consistency.
• Configure and administer users, teams, Microsoft Entra ID groups, security groups, access levels, and role-based permissions using least-privilege principles.
• Maintain project and permission standards, including controlled administrator groups, naming conventions, access reviews, and separation of duties.
• Support governance, audit, and compliance requirements by maintaining traceable approvals, change records, access evidence, configuration documentation, and operational procedures.
• Develop and maintain dashboards, Analytics Views, queries, and Power BI-ready data structures for program status, milestones, risks, dependencies, backlog health, and delivery reporting.
• Support integrations between Azure DevOps and approved enterprise tools, and troubleshoot authentication, permissions, data synchronization, and reporting issues.
• Develop administrative automation and validation scripts using PowerShell, Azure DevOps REST APIs, or similar approved technologies.
• Provide day-to-day platform support, triage incidents and service requests, perform root-cause analysis, and coordinate escalations with Microsoft or internal platform teams when needed.
• Create and maintain configuration specifications, runbooks, standard operating procedures, knowledge articles, training materials, and release notes.
• Provide onboarding, office-hours support, and practical guidance to project managers, product owners, analysts, and delivery teams on effective use of Azure Boards.
• Monitor platform usage and configuration consistency and proactively identify opportunities to simplify administration, reduce manual effort, and improve user experience.
• Operate independently, prioritize competing requests, and deliver configuration changes within established change-control and release-management processes.

Skills and Experience:

• 6+ years of IT experience, including enterprise application administration, DevOps or application lifecycle management, platform support, or related disciplines.
• 3+ years of hands-on Azure DevOps administration experience, with strong emphasis on Azure Boards and project administration.
• Demonstrated expertise customizing inherited processes, work item types, fields, forms, states, rules, reason values, backlog levels, Areas, and Iterations.
• Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps permissions, teams, security groups, access levels, Microsoft Entra ID integration, and least-privilege administration.
• Experience supporting enterprise-scale project or portfolio management use cases, including Agile, Scrum, Kanban, waterfall, or hybrid delivery methods.
• Experience with work item imports, exports, migration, mapping, reconciliation, and post-load data validation.
• Working knowledge of Azure DevOps REST APIs and scripting using PowerShell, Python, or similar languages for administration and automation.
• Experience developing Azure DevOps queries, dashboards, Analytics Views, and reporting integrations such as Power BI.
• Understanding of Azure DevOps audit logs, change control, access reviews, segregation of duties, data retention, and audit-evidence requirements.
• Ability to analyze complex configuration requests, explain product constraints, and recommend maintainable solutions without unnecessary customization.
• Strong troubleshooting, technical documentation, organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills.
• Strong partnership, facilitation, and communication skills, including the ability to coordinate with technical and business stakeholders at multiple levels.
• Ability to work independently with limited direction in a fast-paced environment and provide guidance to less experienced administrators and users.
• B.A. or B.S. in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Experience:

• Experience supporting Azure DevOps environments used primarily for enterprise work management and portfolio reporting.
• Experience with process-template consolidation, inherited-process governance, project onboarding, and controlled configuration releases.
• Experience integrating Azure DevOps data with Power BI, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, ServiceNow, or other approved enterprise platforms.
• Working knowledge of Git repositories, branch policies, pipelines, and release concepts sufficient to support project-level administration and coordinate with engineering platform teams.
• Experience supporting regulated, audited, or controls-driven environments.
