Job summary

Peraton seeks a Principal Engineer Analyst to lead a major Azure cloud migration and modernization effort for a federal customer. The role combines advanced cloud engineering, security governance, and cross‑team leadership to deliver secure, scalable infrastructure.

You will own assessment through production, design governance processes, and guide architecture decisions while collaborating with stakeholders and program leadership. U.S. citizenship and Top Secret eligibility are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required with a minimum of 9 years in IT/Cloud or Cybersecurity.
• One of CASP+ CE, CCNA Cyber Ops, CCNA-Security, CCNP Security, CEH, CFR, CISA, CISSP (or Associate), Cloud+, CySA+, GCED, GCIA, GCIH, GICSP, SCYBER, VCA DCV, PPDA, Agile IC, SNOW App Dev is required or must be obtained before start date.
• Strong Azure cloud architecture experience and operating model design.
• Experience with vulnerability assessment and security baseline standards (e.g., NIST, CIS).
• Hands-on in production Azure environments with VNets, NSGs, RBAC, Entra ID/Azure AD.
• IaC tooling (Bicep or ARM templates) for provisioning.
• CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or equivalent).
• Azure security tooling knowledge (Defender for Cloud, Policy, Key Vault).
• Experience migrating applications to cloud (lift‑and‑shift, re‑platforming, refactor).
• PowerShell or Python scripting/automation.
• Monitoring/logging configuration (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Sentinel).
• Discovery/assessment work for dependencies and data sensitivity.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead a major cloud modernization initiative for a federal customer.
• Plan, design, implement, and sustain migration of on‑prem to Microsoft Azure.
• Set governance, manage lifecycle from assessment to operations.
• Drive technical strategy across stakeholders and teams.
• Design secure, scalable Azure architecture for Dev/Test/Prod.
• Configure identity management, security controls, networking, and baselines.
• Execute phased migrations and validate functionality, performance, and security.
• Lead cut‑over, decommissioning of legacy environments where appropriate.
• Establish change control, onboarding, configuration management, and operations standards.
• Configure monitoring (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Sentinel) and backup/DR (Azure Backup/Site Recovery).
• Lead design reviews, architecture discussions, and CC&B activities.
• Provide ongoing engineering support and sustainment for production cloud.
• Advise program leadership on cloud architecture and modernization strategy.
