Schnabel Engineering is seeking an experienced Azure Cloud Engineer to design, build, secure, and operate cloud infrastructure and data platforms in Microsoft Azure. This role will bolster cloud resilience, security architecture, automation, and modern data/AI services.

The ideal candidate has hands-on Azure and Entra ID experience, strong networking and security fundamentals, and production enterprise experience. Greensboro, NC location and competitive compensation offered.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of IT infrastructure, cloud engineering, or systems administration
• 3+ years designing and supporting Microsoft Azure environments
• Azure certification (e.g., Azure Administrator, Azure Security Engineer, Azure Solutions Architect)
• Experience with Azure Disaster Recovery and hybrid cloud
• Experience with Azure networking, firewalls, and DMZ design
• Experience with AI Foundry / Azure AI services and API security
• IaC using Bicep
• Strong cloud security, identity, and access control

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain Azure infrastructure focusing on availability, security, and DR
• Architect and support Azure DR solutions including Azure Arc-enabled servers
• Design/manage Azure networking (VNets, subnets, NSGs, DMZ)
• Deploy, manage, secure Azure Firewalls and VPNs
• Integrate AI Foundry and Azure AI services with security policies
• Implement and support Microsoft Fabric for data ingestion, analytics, governance
• Enforce Azure security and data access controls
• Develop and maintain IaC using Bicep
• Build, secure APIs for internal/external systems
• Implement observability with Azure Monitor and Log Analytics
• Manage Azure servers (Windows/Linux) including patching
• Collaborate with security, application, and data teams for compliance
• Participate in architecture reviews and incident response

Job Description

Schnabel Engineering is seeking an experienced Azure Cloud Engineer to design, build, secure, and operate cloud infrastructure and data platforms in Microsoft Azure. This role will play a key part in cloud resilience, security architecture, automation, and modern data and AI services. The ideal candidate has deep hands‑on Azure and Entra ID experience, strong networking and security fundamentals, and experience operating in a production enterprise environment.

Job Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain Azure infrastructure with a focus on availability, security, and disaster recovery
• Architect and support Azure Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions, including Azure Arc–enabled servers and hybrid workloads
• Design and manage Azure networking, including VNets, subnets, routing, NSGs, firewalls, and DMZ architectures in Azure
• Deploy, manage, and secure Azure Firewalls, VPNs, and connectivity to on‑prem and third‑party environments
• Support and integrate AI Foundry and Azure AI services in alignment with organizational security policies
• Implement and support Microsoft Fabric, including data ingestion, analytics, and governance
• Design and enforce Azure security, data access controls, and compliance standards
• Control Azure costs and create resource use efficiencyDevelop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Bicep
• Build, integrate, and secure APIs used by internal and external systems
• Implement observability and operational health using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and alerting
• Deploy and manage Azure servers (Windows and Linux), including patching, monitoring, and lifecycle management
• Collaborate with security, application, and data teams to ensure cloud solutions meet operational and compliance requirements
• Participate in architecture reviews, incident response, and continuous improvement initiatives

Required Skills/Experience

• 5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, cloud engineering, or systems administration
• 3+ years of hands‑on experience designing and supporting Microsoft Azure environments
• Strong hands‑on experience as an Azure Engineer or Azure Administrator in an enterprise environment
• Azure certification (e.g., Azure Administrator, Azure Security Engineer, Azure Solutions Architect)
• Proven experience with:
• Azure Disaster Recovery and hybrid cloud
• Azure networking, firewalls, and DMZ design
• Azure AI services and AI Foundry
• API design, deployment, and security
• Azure Monitor and logging solutions
• Azure virtual machines and server management
• Infrastructure as Code using Bicep
• Solid understanding of cloud security principles, identity, and access control
• Experience supporting production workloads with uptime, performance, and compliance requirements

Preferred Skills/Experience

• Experience in regulated environments (government, defense, healthcare, finance)
• Experience with hybrid identity (Entra ID / AD integration)
• Scripting or automation experience (PowerShell, Azure CLI)
• Experience with most major container platforms

The compensation range for this position is between $100,000 to $130,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
