Job summary

Zodiac Solutions, Inc in Cary, NC is seeking an experienced API Architect to own the API layer end to end, partnering with client teams to define contracts and sequencing, and delivering reference services in a reactive Java Spring WebFlux environment.

You will design end-to-end API architecture, OpenAPI standards, large-file transfer patterns, and scalable patterns for synchronous and asynchronous flows while ensuring security and governance across Azure.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in API, integration or backend engineering with API architecture experience.
• Strong hands-on Java with Spring Boot and WebFlux, reactive programming.
• Deep API design skills: REST, OpenAPI, versioning, pagination, error handling.
• Secure file-transfer patterns at scale: SFTP, signed URLs, multipart and resumable uploads.
• Proven ability to design target-state architectures and defend trade-offs to clients.
• Hands-on API delivery in an Azure environment and knowledge of DevOps.

Responsibilities

• Own the API architecture end-to-end, including service boundaries, contracts, data models and versioning.
• Design the interface landscape with reusable API patterns for inbound/outbound interfaces.
• Set the contract standards and OpenAPI approach, ensuring backward compatibility.
• Design patterns for large file transfers with chunking and resumable transfers.
• Make and record trade-offs with ADRs to survive team turnover.
• Design for resilience, scale, backpressure, retries and graceful degradation.
• Build and validate reference services using reactive Java Spring WebFlux.
• Work reactive, non-blocking I/O and streaming of large payloads.
• Build tooling in Python for automation, testing and operational scripts.
• Run APIs on Azure using App Service, AKS or Container Apps with API Management.
• Integrate API layer with ADLS Gen2 storage and data pipelines.
• Handle asynchronous flows with Event Hubs, Service Bus or Kafka.
