Job summary

Themesoft Inc in Albany, NY seeks an experienced AWS Solutions Architect to lead architecture and design of secure, scalable AWS-based applications, data platforms, and integrations in a hybrid work setting with 50% onsite requirements.

You will mentor AWS data engineering and DevOps teams, review designs from vendors, and ensure alignment with security, governance, and Well-Architected standards across projects in the public sector environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and design of AWS-based apps, integrations, data platforms, and cloud workloads.
• Collaborate with analysts and stakeholders to translate requirements into AWS architectures and specs.
• Design API-based, event-driven and other integration patterns among AWS services and external systems.
• Define service selection, data flows, IAM, encryption, logging, monitoring, and DR approaches.
• Develop reference architectures, templates, and implementation guidance for AWS initiatives.
• Provide technical leadership to AWS data engineering and DevOps resources; conduct design reviews.
• Review vendor and SI work to ensure alignment with standards.
• Support PoCs, solution builds, deployment, and troubleshooting; optimize performance.
• Apply AWS Well-Architected principles across five pillars and sustainability.
• Create architecture diagrams, specs, runbooks, and knowledge-transfer materials

Job description

Work Arrangement: Hybrid - 50% onsite is required. (The client strongly prefers candidates who can work 100% Onsite.)

Employment Type: Contract.

Contract Duration: Starts with 12 Months.

Job Duties:

• Lead the architecture and technical design of secure, scalable, reliable, and supportable AWS-based applications, integrations, data platforms, reporting solutions, and cloud workloads.
• Collaborate with business analysts, stakeholders, and technical teams to translate approved business and technical requirements into detailed AWS architectures and implementation specifications.
• Design API-based, event-driven, scheduled, and other integration patterns among AWS services, OPWDD/ITS systems, software-as-a-service platforms, vendor solutions, and authorized data sources.
• Define service selection, data flows, network and account topology, identity and access models, encryption, logging, monitoring, resiliency, backup, disaster recovery, and cost-control approaches.
• Develop reusable reference architectures, integration patterns, technical standards, templates, and implementation guidance for current and future AWS initiatives.
• Provide technical leadership and direction to AWS data engineering and DevOps/CloudOps resources, conduct design reviews, resolve technical blockers, and coordinate cross-team dependencies.
• Review AWS-related designs and implementation work performed by vendors and system integrators to promote alignment with OPWDD/ITS architecture, security, governance, and operational standards.
• Support proofs of concept, solution build, testing, deployment, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and transition to operations.
• Apply AWS Well-Architected principles across operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, cost optimization, and sustainability.
• Develop and maintain architecture diagrams, technical specifications, decision records, interface documentation, runbooks, operational procedures, and knowledge-transfer materials.

Required Skills:

• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing production AWS solutions in complex enterprise environments.
• Strong knowledge of AWS compute, storage, networking, security, serverless, integration, data, monitoring, and governance services.
• Experience designing secure REST or GraphQL APIs, event-driven architectures, and integrations using authentication and authorization standards such as OAuth 2.0 and JSON Web Tokens.
• Experience with AWS identity and access management, virtual private cloud design, encryption, secrets management, logging, monitoring, and multi-account governance.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automated delivery using tools such as AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, AWS CDK, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong understanding of availability, resiliency, disaster recovery, performance, observability, security, and cloud cost-management practices.
• Ability to produce clear architecture diagrams and technical specifications and communicate effectively with executive, business, and technical stakeholders.
• Experience leading technical teams and reviewing the work of vendors, subcontractors, or system integrators.

Required Qualifications:

• A minimum of 10+ years of related experience.
• A minimum of 2+ years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Credentials/Certifications:

• AWS Solutions Architect certification is strongly preferred; professional-level certification is a significant plus.
• Experience establishing enterprise AWS landing zones, multi-account environments, governance controls, and reusable platform patterns.
• Experience integrating enterprise SaaS, electronic health record, data warehouse, lakehouse, or analytics platforms.
• Experience supporting public-sector, healthcare, Medicaid, or other regulated environments, including sensitive or protected data.
• Experience developing production backend services and additional AWS security, networking, DevOps, or data-focused certifications are a plus.
