Job description

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking an AWS Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The ideal candidate will become part of Peraton’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Datacenter Consolidation and Cloud Optimization (DCCO) program, providing Tier 3 support to the DHS Homeland Advanced Recognition Technology (HART) biometric system. The Tier 3 team maintains the HART infrastructure by installing and configuring system software and hardware, monitoring system performance, resolving customer tickets within JIRA, and supporting system incident troubleshooting calls. Tier 3 members closely interact with the government customer to achieve system objectives, provide ticket updates, and system status updates. Tier 3 members are expected to be on-call for a week at a time approximately 4 – 6 times a year. This role is entirely telework-based with core hours between 9 am – 3 pm (EST) Monday – Friday; applicants must reside and perform all work within the United States.

Day-to-Day Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Help develop, document, communicate, and enforce a network technology policy.
  2. Be responsible for the installation and configuration of new software and hardware, including the server network, devices, and firewalls.
  3. Monitor system performance, IT system operations, and storage utilization.
  4. Plan for necessary hardware or software upgrades to support system growth.
  5. Manage user accounts and assets, and update security permissions on the network according to security policy.
  6. Provide support with escalated help desk requests.
  7. Perform typical system administrator activities.
  8. Review system performance logs to identify anomalies and troubleshoot issues.
  9. Identify root causes and document troubleshooting steps to resolution.
  10. Support Active Directory/LDAP, certificate services, network communications, group policy, and security compliance.
  11. Provide Tier III support (problem/incident management).
  12. Work independently and in team settings to achieve key project/program objectives and deliverables.
  13. Provide on-call support for a week at a time: approximately 4 – 6 weeks per year.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma and 6 years of experience.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a U.S. government agency level clearance (DHS EOD, which you must have prior to starting).
  • 5 years of relevant Information Technology experience.
  • Experience in Cloud Systems Administration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AWS experience.
  • Expert knowledge of RHEL, Windows, & other open-source technologies.
  • Knowledge of OpenShift, Splunk, Ansible Automation Platform, Jenkins, JFrog, and similar toolsets.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience using the Java Message Service (JMS) API with Apache ActiveMQ or IBM ActiveMQ message brokers.
  • A development background in Java and/or Golang.
  • Experience managing applications that use web services to manage queue-based message services.

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
