Job summary

Prairie Consulting Services is seeking a Senior AWS/Linux Production Support Engineer in Downtown Chicago with a hybrid on-site schedule. The role focuses on production, application, and platform support, owning issues and coordinating across AWS/Linux/security and application teams.

• 8+ years of hands-on AWS experience.
• Deep understanding of AWS infra and production troubleshooting.
• Hands-on with EC2, VPC, Security Groups and AWS networking.
• Production/support experience in a business-critical environment.
• Linux patching and vulnerability management experience.
• Strong incident troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
• Experience with Terraform / IaC.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and GitLab, GitHub or Azure DevOps.
• Excellent documentation and process improvement skills.
• Strong communication and ownership of production issues.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day administration and support of the AWS production environment.
• Troubleshoot application, Linux and AWS infrastructure issues.
• Administer AWS services including EC2, VPC, S3 and related services.
• Perform Linux server patching, reboots and vulnerability remediation.
• Respond to and coordinate production incidents.
• Manage production vulnerabilities and remediation activities.
• Support production deployments and CI/CD processes.
• Work within a Terraform / Infrastructure as Code environment.
• Partner with Development, Product and Operations teams.
• Improve production support processes, runbooks and technical documentation.
• Help drive further integration with ServiceNow.
• Participate in occasional DR testing and month-end production support.
• Help establish processes as the team moves toward a global production support model.

This is NOT a DevOps engineer position - This role will focus on “Production Support,” “Application Support,” and “Platform Support” rather than pure Infrastructure or DevOps. The role needs someone who can own production issues and work across AWS/Linux/security/application teams.

We are seeking a hands-on Senior AWS / Linux Production Support Engineer to take ownership of a business-critical production environment for a leading global financial services organization.

This is not a traditional Systems Administrator role. We need someone who knows AWS and Linux deeply, is comfortable troubleshooting production issues, and can take ownership of the environment without waiting for direction.

AWS / Linux Production Support Engineer – What You'll Be Doing
