Job summary

The Nature Conservancy is seeking an AWS FinOps Engineer to lead cloud financial management and cost optimization across our AWS environment. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and 3 years AWS cloud experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3+ years of experience in Cloud FinOps, Cloud Financial Management, Cloud Engineering, DevOps, or related disciplines.
• Experience managing costs in enterprise AWS environments.
• Strong understanding of cloud economics, budgeting, forecasting, and cost allocation methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Implement and mature FinOps practices across AWS environments using the Inform, Optimize, and Operate framework.
• Analyze AWS spending trends and provide actionable recommendations to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
• Develop cloud cost reporting, dashboards, forecasts, and executive-level insights.
• Manage and optimize AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Organizations, AWS Budgets, CUR, Savings Plans, and Reserved Instances.
• Build automated solutions for cost monitoring, anomaly detection, chargeback/showback, and governance.
• Partner with application, platform, and business teams to identify optimization opportunities and align cloud spending with business objectives.
• Participate in architecture reviews to ensure cost-efficient, reliable, and scalable solutions.
• Drive continuous improvement through automation, operational excellence, and cloud cost accountability.
• Develop forecasts, budgets, unit-cost measures, and scenario analyses connecting AWS usage to business outcomes.
• Evaluate pricing-model strategies, monitor utilization and coverage, and manage financial risk within governance processes.
• Automate recurring FinOps controls and workflows through IaC, APIs, scripts, event-driven services, and CI/CD integrations.
• Facilitate regular cost reviews and optimization sessions with cloud teams, finance, procurement, and stakeholders.
