Contract to hire

Role Summary:

Serves as the lead cloud specialist supporting USGS GHSC’s AWS-hosted scientific applications, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and secure cloud operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain and troubleshoot cloud infrastructure including real-time feeds and event-based services.
• Assist in cloud migrations and architectural optimizations for seismic/geophysical systems.
• Integrate AWS alerting with existing monitoring and incident management systems.
• Provide rotating after-hours support in coordination with the Senior IT Engineers.

Required Skills and Experience:

• 5+ years hands-on AWS operations in federal or high-availability systems.
• Proficiency with AWS EC2, Lambda, S3, CloudWatch, Route 53, IAM, and VPC management.
• Experience supporting DevOps workflows and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with federal cloud compliance and data protection policies.

Preferred Certifications:

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate
• AWS Certified SysOps Administrator
